The VOLPE: VOcationaL Placements in Europe project is a Key Action 1 VET (Vocational Education and Training) initiative within Erasmus+, funded by the Italian National Agency INAPP. The project is aimed at students and recent graduates from the Tourism and Business tracks of the partner schools in the consortium.
Through VOLPE, participants have the opportunity to undertake internships abroad to gain firsthand experience of the European labour market, live in another country, improve their job-search skills, and deepen their language knowledge.
The project, with a duration of two years (2019–2021), is promoted by IIS Manfredi-Tanari, ISISS Gobetti, and ITCS Gaetano Salvemini, coordinated by YouNet (the national partner responsible for administrative and organisational aspects), with Net in Action supporting entrepreneurship education, and the Municipality of Bologna overseeing the visibility and dissemination of results.
Given the central role of the tourism sector in the country’s development, we strongly believe that the tourism education system must ensure the enhancement of professional skills in line with sector trends and consistent with the positioning of the national offer.
An analysis of the context revealed that the consortium schools are not adequately prepared to provide transversal skills, particularly digital and language skills, which are essential to meet the evolving needs of the tourism labour market. As a result, there is a mismatch between graduates’ preparation and the requirements of the labour market.
The VOLPE project was conceived to address this gap, aiming to promote the development of teaching in the commercial and tourism services sector, with a particular focus on digitalisation and internationalisation, thereby improving young people’s employment prospects.
A total of 92 students will participate in 31-day mobilities, and an additional 16 recent graduates will take part in ErasmusPRO mobilities lasting 92 days.
