Media Masters: Enhancing Media Literacy

The Media Masters initiative, developed on behalf of the French organization PISTES SOLIDAIRES, aims to increase media literacy and civic engagement across nine EU countries, targeting diverse groups such as primary and secondary school pupils, university students, educators, and journalists. The project is strongly practice-oriented and features a multilingual board game and a mobile application that recreate real-life media and news scenarios, simulating false and misleading news as well as social media content, and helping users develop critical thinking skills and recognize disinformation.

The initiative focuses on youth engagement, a generation that is often considered difficult to reach through civic dialogue. We aim to encourage this group to become proactive citizens by fostering a culture of open discussion and debate through our events and digital platforms. Through these projects, we seek to bridge the gap between young people and civic engagement, while also providing meaningful data for ongoing research and continuous feedback, the results of which will be published globally.

Main Objectives:

  • Enhance Media Literacy Skills: Improve individuals’ ability to access, analyse, and produce media content, particularly among primary and secondary school pupils, university students, and other age groups that frequently engage with digital content.

  • Counter Disinformation and Fake News: Address and combat the spread of false news, disinformation, and misleading information in society by educating the public and promoting critical thinking skills.

  • Promote Civic Engagement and Democratic Participation: Engage young people, including children, adolescents, and young adults, in civic participation and public debate through interactive and gamified learning processes, workshops, and conferences.

  • Raise Awareness of Media Challenges: Initiate discussions on the future of media in Europe and the challenges it faces, indirectly addressing broader debates about the future of Europe.

  • Promote Critical Thinking and Information Verification: Foster the development of critically minded individuals who can evaluate and verify information from multiple sources, contributing to a well-informed and democratic society.
