MIND OVER SCREENS: Empowering Youth in the Digital World

Mind Over Screens is an international initiative developed by six youth-focused organizations across Europe, dedicated to strengthening media literacy, critical thinking, and healthy digital habits among young people and youth workers. The project responds to the growing challenges posed by intensive social media use, online risks, and the impact of digital technologies on mental wellbeing.

With 96% of young Europeans using the internet daily and facing increasing exposure to misinformation, cyberbullying, addictive digital behaviours, and emotional pressure, Mind Over Screens aims to provide practical, innovative, and accessible tools to help them navigate the digital world safely and consciously. With the combination of training, gamification, educational resources, and awareness campaigns this European project has the goal of building a modern, inclusive, and impactful learning ecosystem for youth and educators.

Main Objectives:

  • Strengthen Media Literacy Skills: Equip young people and youth workers with the ability to understand, analyse, and critically evaluate online content, social media dynamics, and digital influence.
  • Promote Healthy Digital Habits: Address issues such as smartphone addiction, FOMO, excessive screen time, and the impact of social media on mental health, offering practical strategies for balanced digital use.
  • Combat Disinformation and Online Manipulation: Develop activities with the use of some tools that help identify fake news, misleading content, algorithmic bias, and the risks of oversharing personal information.
  • Empower Youth Workers and Educators: Provide a blended training course (online + in-person), a comprehensive handbook, and a set of gamified educational tools to support youth workers, teachers, and trainers in their daily practice.
  • Engage and Inspire Young People: Through workshops, local activities, a dedicated podcast series, and a European-wide social media campaign, the project encourages active participation, dialogue, and awareness among young people aged 14–25, with a strong focus on those with fewer opportunities.
