Wise mind – Third Newsletter published!
The new newsletter of the Wise Mind project funded by the Erasmus+ programme has been released.
Wise Mind is a project funded by the Turkish National Agency under the Erasmus+ Programme. It involves nine partners from six European countries. The partners include A.Ç.S.H. (Turkey – Project Coordinator), Istanbul Governorship (Turkey), Istanbul University–Cerrahpaşa (Turkey), New Beginnings (Turkey), Youth for Equality (Slovakia), Anata Foundation (the Netherlands), YouNet (Italy), DROSOSTALIDA (Greece), and Human & Longevity (Bulgaria).
The project started on 1 November 2019 and runs for 24 months, ending on 31 October 2021.
The Wise Mind project aims to develop crisis-management capacities among traumatised young people and youth workers who support them.
These young people experience high levels of emotional, psychological, and physical distress, which temporarily affect their ability to cope with everyday life. A kind of “emergency mode” is activated, which needs to be addressed by enhancing well-being and developing stress-management skills and emotional intelligence—referred to as WISE skills (from the English acronym).
These young people often have serious difficulties in externalizing their behaviours, experiencing hyperactivity and frequent crises caused by challenges in stress management and a lack of resilience.
Providing services to these young people is a significant challenge, as youth workers must learn to handle the situation effectively, both for the well-being of the young people and for their own psychological health. It is common for youth workers to struggle in managing the traumatic experiences of young people, which can lead to secondary trauma and burnout for the staff themselves.
Better stress management and greater resilience are therefore key for both groups to handle daily behavioural issues and maintain a calm and peaceful everyday life. Using techniques specifically developed for this group, youth workers and young people will acquire the skills needed to reduce the frequency and severity of behavioural crises across the partner countries. This is a priority objective, as it directly relates to the safety and protection of both young people and the staff working with them.
To achieve this, an innovative curriculum will be developed for youth workers, enabling them to acquire the necessary skills in well-being, stress management, and youth emotional intelligence.
