Under the European Solidarity Corps programme, YouNet APS coordinates this project offering young people the opportunity to participate in long-term volunteering experiences in Bologna and its neighboring areas. The initiative focuses on promoting inclusion, intercultural dialogue, and active citizenship, with a special emphasis on young people facing fewer opportunities, including those from rural or underserved regions.
Through their involvement in diverse educational, cultural, and solidarity-based activities, volunteers actively contribute to local communities, support European values, and experience both personal and professional growth. This project helps build a more inclusive society while inspiring young people to become proactive agents of change within their local communities and across Europe.
Objectives:
Building Intercultural Understanding
- Promote awareness of Europe’s values, cultures, and opportunities.
- Engage young people from rural and peripheral areas who often face fewer chances.
- Volunteers encourage dialogue across cultures, strengthen knowledge of the EU, and support community unity.
Advancing Inclusion and Solidarity
- Reduce social exclusion by supporting vulnerable groups in rural and peripheral regions.
- Volunteers create and lead cultural, educational, and recreational programs.
- These initiatives foster solidarity, intercultural and intergenerational exchange, and inspire volunteers to champion inclusion.
Strengthening Youth through Volunteering
- Involve young Europeans with fewer opportunities in impactful volunteer experiences.
- Provide safe, inclusive spaces that nurture active citizenship and participation.
- Volunteering helps youth gain skills, confidence, and networks, while contributing to a more equitable and cohesive society.

April and May have been such enriching months. As part of YouNet, we had the chance to bring the YouthDemocraid project to life—visiting schools and leading workshops on active citizenship and democracy. It was inspiring to see how involved and enthusiastic the students were. One special moment for me was introducing myself in Italian—it felt amazing and empowering!
These months also brought a touch of adventure. I traveled to the Netherlands and Germany, soaking in new places, cultures, and memories that I’ll carry with me.
But perhaps the most bittersweet part was saying goodbye to some wonderful friends who became a cherished part of our lives. Before they left, we made sure to share a taste of home—dining together at a Georgian restaurant, laughing, reminiscing, and celebrating our time together.
I’m truly loving every moment of this journey. I can’t wait to see what adventures the next months will bring!

March has been such an exciting month here in Bologna! It’s already my seventh month living and volunteering here, and I feel like I’m growing more every day. This month, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Bulgaria and Istanbul, which were both amazing experiences.
Back in Bologna, through volunteering, I had the chance to meet so many new people, with whom we’ve shared some great moments together. My work is again filled with school visits, and I feel a lot better and more confident with the activities.
March has been a month full of adventures, learning, and growth — both professionally and personally. I’m truly grateful for all the experiences I’ve had so far and excited for the months to come!

In just one month of volunteering in Reggio Emilia I've experienced a whirlwind of unforgettable moments. From attending Peggy Gou's concert with my flatmate to exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Cinque Terre, Venice, and Milano, every day has been an adventure.
But beyond the travel activities, I've immersed myself in the vibrant nightlife of Reggio, Modena, and Bologna. Along the way, I've forged meaningful friendships that have enriched my journey.
Most importantly, my time here has been dedicated to mastering the Italian language, and I'm proud to say that I can feel myself improving with each passing day. This experience has not only broadened my horizons but has also fueled my passion for cultural exchange. I can't wait to see what the coming months in Italy hold for me!

As my 12-month journey in Italy came to a close, I find myself overwhelmed with emotions — so many, I can barely count
This year has been about discovery. About meeting incredible people from all over the world, forming friendships that I know will last a lifetime
Throughout this year, I’ve had the privilege of meeting people from all over the world. Living and working alongside individuals from different countries has been a daily cultural exchange — one that has expanded my worldview and taught me adaptability, empathy, and communication in ways no classroom ever could.
I literally explored every corner of Reggio Emilia, Modena, Parma, Bologna and beyond. From the romantic canals of Venice to the Renaissance heart of Florence… and of course, Milan. Oh, Milan, you’ve left a mark on me I’ll carry forever
This year flipped my world upside down in the best way. I’ll definitely have something to mention on my CV in the future! I learned new languages, new skills, new sides of myself. I laughed, I cried, I grew.
Volunteering here didn’t just teach me about Italy. It taught me about me
This chapter may be closing, but the lessons and friendships will stay with me forever. Thank you, Italy. You’ll always be a part of me

I arrived in Reggio Emilia 1 month ago, and things have been great so far. I started my activities in schools, I went on trips to Milan, Bologna, and Modena, and already made plans to discover more of the region and of the country. The other volunteers made me feel included and comfortable from the beginning, and I am sure we will create great memories together. I am excited that I have so much to still discover, so many friends to still make and so many places to see.

Coming to Palermo was like a dream come true and a great opportunity for a
new start: a new city, new language and new friends! After university I felt that I
needed to do something different and get out of my comfort zone, so I started
looking for opportunities abroad and working with ELA seemed the perfect
match.
Thanks to working with educational staff from different European
countries I have improved a lot of skills, gained independence and had a good
time with a great team.
Palermo and its people welcomed me with open arms
and now that I have to say goodbye I know for sure that one day I will go back
to the city that gave me so much.
