I did a volunteering experience in Malta with an organization that works with children with various disabilities: Inspire.
Thanks to this volunteering experience, I realized that in the future I want to work with children with disabilities. It allowed me to get to know the children, build bonds with them, and understand their needs and ways of communicating—this was the most beautiful part of the experience. Inspire also has horses for pet therapy with the children, and part of my volunteering involved taking care of them. It’s hard work, but it’s rewarded by the love these amazing animals give you. It was very interesting to see the world where the children interact with the horses.
This was the first time I lived in a foreign country where English is spoken. At first, it was difficult, but it gave me the opportunity to improve my language skills. I also had the chance to work with many people from different parts of the world, which was fascinating—it allowed me to learn about other cultures and compare the political, economic, cultural, and social systems of different countries with my own. I was able to understand both the strengths and weaknesses of my country.
I loved living in Malta. I come from Sardinia and I love the sea—back home I live about fifteen minutes from the coast—but in Malta, the sea is part of my daily life, as I lived in Marsaskala, a small seaside town. My fondest memory of Malta is the view of the sea from the bus I took every day to return home from work.
