Irene's experience in Cyprus

08.04.2021

The photos show the progress we made with the fridge, my joy at seeing a chameleon for the very first time in my life, the carnival, the interview we did with a music therapist for our show, our picnic during Clean Monday, and finally some shots from our trips around Cyprus: magnificent places, always in the company of friends who, I must admit, add a bit of spice to everyday life and make every moment special. I’m truly grateful for all of this!

March was full of festivals and traditions. There was carnival, which in Limassol is truly a major event.
There was a small parade (by car, due to Covid), which was a lot of fun. I hope I can come back someday to experience the carnival at its fullest. We also took part in other events related to Lent and carnival, such as Clean Monday, which officially marks the start of Lent, when people don’t eat meat. The Cypriot tradition is to have a picnic on the beach, and of course, we couldn’t resist this beautiful custom. Another important day is Tsiknopempti, which is basically our Shrove Tuesday, except they celebrate it on Thursday, and the city fills with smoke from all the souvlaki and barbecues. In short, here as in Italy, traditions always seem to involve food.

This month, we also got busy tidying up the garden, and my French roommate created a really beautiful cactus “pool.” As always, we try to make this house feel a little more like our own.
