I took part in the latest meeting of “Europe Comes to You”, dedicated to the theme “The Future and Challenges of the European Union,” during which the upcoming European elections were discussed. The event was very interesting thanks to the contributions of professors of European law and political representatives working at the European level. It was also great to watch the screening of a short video created by students from a high school, demonstrating that even the youngest generations are interested in Europe and truly feel like European citizens. I am very satisfied to have taken part in this event!

The series of meetings promoted by the Municipality of Bologna, “Europe Comes to You,” was a very interesting and useful experience. With the help of sector experts, including university professors, it was possible to provide a diverse audience with a vision of Europe that feels close to its citizens. This activity was particularly valuable to me in view of the upcoming European elections, as in order to elect representatives to the European Parliament in an informed way, it is necessary to inform voters, as much as possible, about what Europe actually does. These meetings clarified, in a simple and comprehensive way, the doubts I had about these institutions, which often seem so distant from our communities, allowing me to acquire new knowledge that will certainly be useful in the future.

For me, as an international student, participating in the “Europe Comes to You” meetings was very interesting. I come from Russia and I did not know in detail what Europe is like from the inside. Now, concepts such as the Eurozone, Brexit, and the values of a united Europe have become much clearer to me. I especially remember the meeting with Marco Calamai, a professor of Sports Psychology. He inspired me to reflect on the fact that we are all different and that everyone has their own unique talents.

This was the first time I had the opportunity to participate in a course on European civic education, which was interesting, fun, and easy to understand. I have been in Italy for six months, doing my ESC (European Solidarity Corps) in Bologna, and I learned about the meetings through YouNet. “Europe Comes to You” helped me get informed about the European Union and the opportunities it offers to everyone. At all the meetings, there was the chance to discuss different topics, such as European integration, opportunities for young people, and the challenges of immigration, together with journalists, cultural figures, and academics.
