“The return was as sweet as it was bitter, but I came back with a great awareness: now I know where I belong in the world”.
Crossing the Mediterranean and finding myself in yet another reality was not easy, especially during such a delicate and complicated time for everyone. Yet, in the end, I can say that Cyprus feels like home to me. It’s home because I was welcomed like a member of a family; it’s home because the traffic in Limassol gently reminded me of the typical Roman chaos; it’s home because the smell of souvlaki wafting through the streets brings to mind midsummer barbecues; it’s home because I met people with whom I shared far more than I could have imagined.
Returning was as sweet as it was bitter, but I come back with a profound awareness: I now know where I belong in the world. And if it took three months in Cyprus to realize that, then I would recommend this experience to anyone—whether confused or determined—who is searching for themselves.
